An immersive, ongoing performance centered on improvisation and micro body movement within the electromagnetic spectrum, Ilektrofonitikos (initiated in 2024) explores the invisible web of electromagnetic radiation.
In this work, I receive and orchestrate in real time a constellation of signals and radio waves from our technological environment—wireless communications, amateur radio, Morse code, air traffic transmissions, and electromagnetic interference. These live signals are interwoven with my own outdoor recordings of electromagnetic radiations from space and (VLF) natural radio atmospheric phenomena, which cannot be captured within buildings. Using a range of antennas, radio receivers, detectors, and analogue instruments indoors, I compose a continuously evolving sonic landscape. The performance reveals “other-than-human” voices and unseen forces. Through sonic improvisation and subtle body movement, I navigate this hidden realm, where each signal, fluctuation, and interference becomes part of a living, breathing composition.
Ilektrofonitikos invites the audience to reconsider perception and reality by attuning to the electromagnetic atmosphere that surrounds us. It opens a space for awareness of the invisible infrastructures we inhabit, and of the delicate, often imperceptible connections between technology, environment, our bodies, and the wider cosmos.
